TEMPIC

Otro Bello desconocido..

THE ORIGINAL MBO WATCH (Photo Peter Wenzig) DISPONIBLE EN LA GALERIA

TEMPIC

Another unknown Beauty ..

Wonderfull Tempic, From 1979, 17 Jewels with inner and outer double bezel

very seventies as we have seen earlier in the Yearling and Zumac Post entries, and in other models as well

with that tipycal Ernest Schneider look.

Apparently The German Wholesale chain Neckerman acquired the rights of the brand and tried to relaunch it with Chinese manufacture Parts

Seems not with much success..i guess,

so rarely really pops up any worthy Units available.

See  as example of this

a mid 90´s, Panton Eames Styled

Yellow quartz jump hours

That has not Stood the test of time very well..

You may see an unique Tempic-MBO cooperation watch, with ESA 942 611 module – the 1978 «ZEIT COMPUTER -TIME COMPUTER»

Thats the real Saint grial from Tempic the rare Tempic-MBO (Münchner Büro Organisation) watch.

Thanks to Mario, a Fellow watch enthusiast we can enjoy today a mint tempic unit !!

This watch is an early –1977 Year – and rarely seen  cooperation between the Tempic brand (‘Tempic’ was the house brand of the ’70s famous mail order company Neckermann in the West Germany) and MBO (Münchner Büro Organisationbrand – a successful computer and digital watch seller – in the ’70s – of the famous worldwide brands in West Germany).
It seems that both companies politics, in the early ’70 until cca 1979, was to sell in the Western Europe, high quality watches produced and assembled by the important Swiss brands under their own names (e.g. either Tempic or MBO or a rarely seen cooperation watches between them – the Tempic-MBO watches).
But one have to agree that their branded products may look more like high quality copies, with a very similar design and the same Swiss movements of the successful watches from the more known brands, such as Longines/Wittnauer, Certina, Avia, Catena etc
E.g.:
MBO produced in 1977 an All Stainless Steel watch, with ESA 934 711 module, very similar with the Longines and Certina ones, as one may see in the outstanding collection of Peter Wenzig, who runs the excellent website Magic Digitals:
Also we have some similar designed watch of famous brands, with the same ESA 934 711 movement, one from the famous collection of the CrazyWatches – Poland and one from the Vintage Certinas website:
Longines with ESA 934 711
Certina 780-24 with ESA 934 711
The All Stainless Steel Tempic-MBO -ESA 934 611 watch, has a similar design and share the same module with this Longines 1977 watch, from CrazyWatches – Poland collection:

Some more facts about the Tempic and MBO brands and their present day status:

1. It seems that both Tempic and MBO watches, even the early ones (from ’70s) which were entirely produced in Switzerland by important Swiss manufacturers, were MAINLY sold in the West Germany using either Neckermann mail order network (Tempic brand) or MBO own distribution network (MBO watches) – a network already used by MBO in to sell various types of japanese scientific calculators and even computers.

2. In 2012 Neckermann filed for bankruptcy, but the Tempic-brand lives on – in cheap China-made watches sold at (n.r. former Neckermann) Karstadt department stores.
MBO (Münchner Büro Organisation) was founded in 1966 by Peter Schmidt and Lorenz Niederleitner and is registered since July 1st, 1967 as MBO Schmidt & Niederleitner GmbH & Co. KG in Deisenhofen near Munich. The company MBO could be called the first company producing calculators in Germany. Within just 10 years MBO advanced in Germany to the leader of the still young market of electronic calculators and watches with a turnover of 125 million German Mark.
JENOPTIK AG – a German Hightech company – purchased MBO in September 1994 and distributes calculators and other office products still under the MBO labell

But the very interesting time pieces are those produced in the Tempic-MBO quite short cooperation (c.1977-1978), which are quite rare, All Swiss Made, high quality watches.

One have to underline the beauty of the «rounded» LCD-font used in the ESA 934 611 and in some of the ESA 934 711 modules  a design quite unique for the early LCD modules.
