Everything You Always Wanted To Know About 70s Watches (But Were Afraid To Ask)

I have been collecting watches from the 70s for a while,
and considering the lack of info about the period in my own language,
i finally decided to build up a personal website, and put everything together in order that could be easily checked up in a comprehensive way for my fellow countryman collectors.

is this one:

70sWatchesGallery

https://70swatchesgallery.wordpress.com/

..173 galleries and growing..

http://cid-3998751f47d8540c.skydrive…0&sa=745670542

In the beguining  This was an attempt for my fellow forum

Now migrated to WordPress,
just go for the «S» seiko «so go figure» I expect at least 3 years
to be able to finish it..
but soon all vintage watches that are worth to be considered
will be there.

This is indeed hard work,

My Goal is to slowly in my unfortunately Small spare time,
to be able to catalog all the important watches
from the Seventies,  including all important makes and the Most relevant models
from the period, and put some light on the dark stage it was.

I have more than 15,000 photos of rare watches of the 70s,
some are mine and most other are from other collectors of WUS or SCWF and other countries.

And i am going up by brands and models,
including the ones susceptible to come with aftermarket parts,
i do this on porpouse, for other colleagues to learn and check so they make no mistake on their purchases.

Every time I finish a model or gallery
I upload my comments to this Subforum
they have created specially for myself

http://www.foroderelojes.es/forumdisplay.php?f=63

I am  posting galleries in reverse alphabetical order from Z to A

so once i finish everything will make sense.

also the same info is updated in a megapost at Re
http://www.relojes-especiales.com/fo…ad.php?t=66012
(Which is the busiest watch forum in Spain)

English is my second language, but as i didnt have enough time to post my comments twice in both languages at the spanish forums in the past,

I Finally decided to build up this blog written in Spanish and English.

For other languages please use Google Translation from Spanish to your mother language.

Fortunately nowadays, google translations are not as funny as they were in the past, so i hope if any of you, have to make use of it, what comes up, ends up being somewhat understandable.

DISCLAIMER:

When collecting watches, you must collect & grab all the information you can.

On vintage watches and most with watches specifically from this period, with lots of small brands
coming and going and Most others in bankrupcy…this is a Must.

On Vintage watches, sometimes theres no serial number records
or even some brands were so small is like they never existed, so you have to be very cautious,

Always  contrast all the info available before Purchase,

And never believe 100% all you read,  as most of the time its a guessing game.

So the best testimony of the watchmaking from this decade is the photographs available
from the watches that are Still alive nowadays.

Thats why vintage watch photos are that important, looking at them closely can give us most of the time the information we need

Obviously, Not all the watches that appear in This Blog, belong to my own collection, which I wish …

But many do.

Besides my Own,

There are watches that have been for sale in the past, watches that have ever been in my sights or my «wishlist», or watches that are good examples from friend collectors, or found freely on the network at each respective forum of the brand.

And of course all of them are examples that I believe are REPRESENTATIVE

That is why, in fact it is possible some fellow forumers or another collector may recognize some of their units in this blog.

So first of all and to spare any supceptibilities,

No need to say that if someone recognizes a watch of his own and is somewhat upset that his unit is included here, and feels its not okay, I will have to respect his opinion, if this case ever happen, just identify the corresponding offending picture, contact me and immediately it will be deleted from the database.

On the other hand, if the opposite happened, and someone believes that can contribute to this blog with more accurate info or just a reperesentative piece from the period, and for instance wants, a photo of  his  «jewel of the crown» appearing  in this blog, of course it can be done,   you only need to contact me for uploading,  and as long it meets my requirements, I shall be happy.

moreover, in some specific cases I have included some mods, and even a replicas of interest.

This is because a good restoration or customization can also be considered a great example, and so other collectors can learn to see the differences and use this knowledge as a reference for their shopping, and avoid getting ripped over the network.

I want to Thank publicly Isthmus For his hardwork with the seikos,

A great part of the info i did not have especially about japanese watches, comes from his work, and I allways found his effort and dedication very usefull for any watch lover. Most if we are talking about this japanese greats.

And all the people i met while collecting watches. Specially to Reto Marxer, Miklos Verevelyi, Bijan Shahsavari, Pascal, Gerhard Duve, Yvonne Graf, Jeff lockhart, Uhren baron, and all the rest as of course my countryman, Alberto, Anton, for those fantastic forums, and the master Pedro Izquierdo for his bad jokes..

hope you enjoy your visit.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.

  6. Good day! Your website is excellent. I have a question though…many people online (including myself) are trying to figure out what vintage 60s/70s wrist watch is worn by Johnny Depp in the movie «Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.» See some pictures here: http://lh5.ggpht.com/_b1abHLG3pQE/TOwXoi46e7I/AAAAAAAAAPA/AO9U5LGjDh0/hunters_wwatch.jpg

It looks similar to a Sorna Chrono Diver, but is not exact. Do you know what wrist watch this is? Thanks!

    • Hi Roy, thanks a lot,

glad you have enjoyed the site, bit busy with work these days, but stay tuned
lots of more updates to come soon

About the watch your trying to identify, is difficult to say, as the film shots aint very clear
it could be a sicura, as there was tons of different case variations that days,
but at first glance it looks a Wakmann seahunter single date diver to me.. here is a photo
of a double date unit (with no lupe) to compare
