VETTA

VETTA

Some of you may be wondering why I included this trademark in the «V» and not the «W» .. if it’s really Wyler Vetta ..

Then there’s a reason: Current Wyler-Vetta,

Was Named Just Vetta Alone in the  70´s

Famous In Italy for its Divers And Chronographs  in the middle segment with Italian design and Swiss heart, there was little gap between the doxa , the caribbean and all those little things that appeal to divers ..

in the gallery you have a wonderful and highly valued example * Nos * with orange dial, and one Automatic Model.

In The 30´s wyler wanted to move into italy to do business. under italian law at the time, foreign companies had to partner with italian companies to do this. Wyler partnered Then with Vetta.

Paul Wyler, Was the Basel watchmaker who pioneered the development of watch balances beginning in 1896. Wyler patented the ‘Incaflex’ in 1927, a breakthrough in shock-resistance. He went on to receive nine more patents in balances, materials and pressure resistance.

Wyler also ‘invented’ the advertising testimonial when he put Wyler Vetta watches on the Italian soccer team in 1934. In 1956, a Wyler timepiece was thrown from the top of the Eiffel Tower, in another publicity coup,And it still worked!

After the trying era of the quartz revolution, Wyler was purchased by Binda, who re-launched the brand in 2002.

A long history

Wyler Vetta watches, produced and distributed by the Binda group (an Italian enterprise that also owns Breil, D & G Time, Nike signature models, and the Italian distribution for Seiko), has a very interesting history. In the past, these timepieces enjoyed quite a widespread reputation following the famous patent for the Incaflex, a system that substituted small bars converging towards the centre of a pinion gear by an ultra flexible convergent double spiral that helped protect the watch against various types of shocks. This patent, dating to 1932, is perfectly adaptable to wristwatches that are already consumer favourites.

It was precisely at this Era that the name Vetta was added to Wyler and the new Wyler Vetta rapidly met with great success. The owner and distributor of the brand in Italy, the Binda group, was itself created in 1906 by Innocente Binda, with its headquarters in Milan. Starting in 1908, the world champion Italian national soccer team sponsored the brand. The famous soccer player Giuseppe Meazza declared in a speech, in one of the earliest examples of sponsoring, «My watch and I are inseparable. I wear it during all my matches because it is resistant to shocks.»

Spectacular demonstrations

Over the following years, the brand organized many uncommon and spectacular demonstrations of the robustness of the Incaflex system, which became its symbol. One example involved Innocente Binda who drove around the streets of Milan dragging watches attached with cords behind the car. Other examples showed Wyler Vetta timepieces being thrown from the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1956 and from Seattle’s Space Needle in 1962. In all cases, the abused movements kept right on ticking with no damage.

Richard Gere

The American actor is perfectly in tune with the philosophy and the products of this brand, which combines Italian style with Swiss know-how. Hence the idea for this collaboration, which also sees the sum of 30 euros paid to the Healing the Divide Foundation for every Wyler Vetta watch sold. Established by Richard Gere, the organisation is committed to solving humanitarian problems such as the schooling of third-world children.
